Misinformed & Ignorant

Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” So there was a division among the people because of Him. John 7:40-43

Misinformation and ignorance hurt the kingdom of God! It causes disagreements and divisions within the church and scoffing by those outside the church.
In the case of today’s scripture many believed Jesus came from Galilee when He actually was of the lineage of King David and born in Bethlehem.
They were right about the prophecy of where Messiah would come from but ignorant about the facts of this Man.

I remember finding a book in my grandparents’ house that gave reasons why the Bible was not true. I read the little book and, in my ignorance, found it very convincing.
But as I studied the scripture I found it more convincing.
That was decades ago and a book.
Today’s information is no longer limited to books. Social media and the internet pump misinformation into homes and phones.
You have access to all kinds of literature, teachings, philosophies, and doctrines with no way to verify the truthfulness of that information.

Pastors and teachers of the Bible need to exercise caution when stating things that lie outside the scripture. Historical knowledge of the times is very beneficial. But take care when studying with the help of online resources. Books and commentaries that alter the facts and change the meaning of God’s word are readily available for free reading.
Stay strong in purity of God’s word. Do not become misinformed and ignorant.
