A sinner

And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner… Luke 7:37

The language of the Bible often fascinates me. Such is the case of Luke 7:37 when it calls a city woman a sinner.
Sinner is an appropriate term for everyone, though we tend to get more specific; Bob is a drunk, Sue cheated on her husband, Larry deals dope, and Mary gossips.
But perhaps the writer wanted to convey the idea that she was an outcast of society.
Her specific sin is not given but prostitution is likely, but that’s only a guess.
What if it said instead, “And behold, a man in the city who was a sinner”?
What sin would you venture to guess?

Sin is sin and all of it alienates you from God. It makes little difference if you are a drunk, an adulterer, dealing dope, or gossiping.
As Paul said, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” 1 Tim 1:15
I could say, “I am a sinner” without any specifics and the statement is correct.
I could say, “I am a sinner forgiven and redeemed by the blood of Christ” and the statement is still correct.
Sin is our nature but Christ came to change that nature!
