And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together. Gen 22:8
I remember the first time I read this scripture and thought how prophetic.
First, the son, Isaac, is carrying the wood for his own sacrifice. Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; Gen 22:6
That is much like God’s Son carrying the wood for His Own sacrifice.
In Isaac’s case, something is missing – Isaac said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Gen 22:7
His father’s answer reached far beyond this moment, “God will provide for Himself the lamb!”
I don’t know if you have thought about this but it goes onto say Abraham bound Isaac, placed him on the wood, and was about to kill him when the Angel of the Lord called out.
It says Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. Gen 22:13
I believe Abraham focused on the sacrifice of Isaac and never noticed the ram caught in the thicket. I believe the ram was there the entire time.
God provides for us but we focus on the problems at hand and fail to notice it.
Many people are searching for hope and help and fail to see the Lamb of the cross that God provided.
Abraham called the name of that place Yahweh-Yir’eh (the Lord will provide): as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen. Gen 22:14
He is still Yahweh-Yireh and still provides. Don’t focus on the problems so much today. Look up and look around and see what God provides for you!
