Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.” Genesis 29:18
Love is a strong force.
Love causes you to donate a kidney.
Love makes you face danger to protect your child.
Love allows you to faithfully stay married to someone for seventy years.
Love takes you past personal safety.
According to God’s word love is patient and love is kind.
The Bible says much about love in 1 Corinthians 13.
How long would you labor for someone you love?
Jacob offered seven years for the hand of Rachel; and it seemed but a few days to him. Through deceit Jacob eventually worked fourteen years for her.
Though I did not strike a deal with my father-in-law, I have worked every day of my marriage to Linda – almost thirty-nine years.
During that time we had children and I continued to work during the entire time they lived at home with us.
If my in-laws call me to come and work on something around their home, I go.
I work at church, often by myself, so everyone has a more pleasant experience when there.
I get up early to study God’s word, pray, and write about what I read because I love God and I love His word.
It seems the words of Jesus change meaning a bit when you think about it – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13
When you lay down your life, you set aside your own life and desires for the benefit of another.
You lay down your life when you get up every day and work for your family or when you gather at the church for a work day.
You sacrifice your sleep or comfort to sit up with a sick friend at home or the hospital. You’ve laid down your life.
When you give your last $10 to a stranger on the corner, you lay aside yourself too.
You have more love than you thought!
