Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ Exodus 3:13-14
“Mommy, where did God come from?”
Many parents posed that question as a child and are asked it as an adult.
The same question in the mind of someone coupled with a lack of understanding of the answer may lead some to embrace atheism or agnosticism.
He has no beginning and He has no end. He is eternal God.
Everything you know and everything you do begins and ends, including you. It is all you have known and therefore it is difficult to understand the eternity of God.
As I have said before names have meaning, as does God’s. Yet the meaning of His Name is too wonderful to comprehend. His name is not just a name but conveys that He is God.
As Moses stands before a bush that burns with fire, yet is not consumed, I realize God is the bush, He is the fire, He is the ground, He is the sky, He is the stars above, and He is the very breath that Moses inhales.
All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. Col 1:16-18
When Genesis declares in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1) it most certainly does not declare the beginning of God but that of the heavens and earth. He is before all things.
He is the way He is (I Am that I Am) and does not change. I am the way I am too. So are you. You do things a certain way because it’s how you are. Someone loves to fish or hunt and you do not. It is how they are and it is how you are.
But your passion is not set on holiness but selfishness. You do things to please you, for the most part, and it often involves sin.
God’s great passion is you! He Is to give you life. He Is to give you salvation and forgiveness.
Ask yourself, “Who loves me enough to give everything for me?”
God answers, “I AM!”
