Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” 1 Samuel 17:32-33
There are two types of people – those that encourage and those that discourage.
With Goliath looming and lording over the Israelites for forty days a dose of encouragement is just what they need.
David gives it!
His older brother basically tells him to quiet down.
Even King Saul tells David he cannot fight against the giant warrior.
Now imagine how things would have turned out different if Jesus had a negative attitude.
Five thousand people would stay hungry.
A twelve-year-old girl and Lazarus would stay dead.
Peter’s language would exempt him from becoming a disciple.
“Too many Pharisees! No need in bumping heads with them.”
“Eww! A leper! Stay away from him.”
“It’s a long, long way up Golgotha’s hill. And not everyone will appreciate what I do. I may as well stay home.”
What if a young man named David had not said, “With the Lord’s help I can defeat this guy!” (paraphrased)
Be positive today. You can a lot more than you can’t!
