So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. 2 Sam 11:3-4
What excuses are given for this incident?
David could say, “If she hadn’t been out bathing in the open then this would not have happened!”
Bathsheba could say, “If the king had not been a peeping tom then this would not have happened!”
God says each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:13-15
Sin consumes everything in its path.
It consumed David’s heart for God.
It consumed Bathsheba’s marriage.
It consumed Uriah’s life.
It consumed an innocent baby.
Sin does not take prisoners! Sin steals and kills.
Only Jesus restores and gives life.
