And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord. 2 Samuel 11:27
How can a person have such little regard for laws, rules, morality, and human life?
Is David at all by what he did?
This man after God’s own heart committed coveting, adultery, lying, murder, stealing a man’s wife, dishonoring his own family, and spitting in the face of God with little or no regret.
I look at my own life and compare it to David’s and I want to say, “I haven’t done that… or that… or that.”
But God is not interested in what I haven’t done.
God is interested in what I HAVE DONE!
Jesus makes it abundantly clear in Matthew chapter 5 that my thoughts betray me. Adultery is not just in the physical but it is my eyes and my thoughts. Murder is not just a physical act but a mental attitude of the mind.
I can boast and compare my life to David (or anyone else) all I want.
However, on the Day of Judgment, I am not compared to David, Billy Graham, Hitler, Charles Manson, or you.
I am compared to Jesus and with that, I fail miserably. He is the standard by which God judges all – because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. Acts 17:31
So now I can read the last line of scripture and insert my name – But the thing that Pastor Tim had done displeased the Lord.
Praise God for His grace to cover my sin! More about that coming up in a future Morning Thought.
