Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the Lord loved him, 2 Samuel 12:24
This is a great lesson in grace.
This is the same David that coveted.
This is the same David that committed adultery.
The same man that schemed and killed another man to cover up his sin.
The same man that stole another man’s wife.
The same man that brought dishonor to his family.
The same king that lied.
The same king that could not honor God because of the sins committed.
This is David, a man after God’s own heart who broke God’s heart.
This is the same Bathsheba married to Uriah.
This is the same Bathsheba who gave into the seduction of the king.
This is the same Bathsheba with whom he committed a sin.
This is the same couple that knew adultery was wrong and a sin against God.
This is the same couple that conceived a child because of that affair – an innocent child who died so that King David would live.
Now the same man and same woman give birth to another child and the Lord loved him.
This child is Solomon, who grows up to become the richest, wisest king and man of all time.
God does not look at King David and Bathsheba and see an adulterous couple. His unconditional grace does not allow Him to see such.
His grace creates an environment of unconditional love.
I want to see what God sees. I want to see grace and love. I want to forgive and forget, just like God.
