But King Solomon loved many foreign women… For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. 1 Kings 11:1, 4
Solomon spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five and men of all nations, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to hear the wisdom of Solomon.
He prepared and built the magnificent Temple of the Lord and had a kingdom that stretched from Egypt to the Euphrates River.
God blessed Solomon so abundantly but…
Many things can get in between you and God, just as it did Solomon.
Money, possessions, ego, or relationships can dwarf your view of God as it happened to Solomon as the demands of his wives turned his heart away.
Although you really cannot blame the women – it was Solomon’s decision to go and worship those false gods. (1 Kings 11:5-8)
Solomon disobeyed God’s word in respect to foreign wives. (Deut 7:3, 4)
You cannot blame anything for taking you away from God but yourself! The devil doesn’t make you do it. Neither does your spouse, your job, or anything else.
Some temptations are difficult for you to resist. These temptations will draw you away.
As it is written no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Cor 10:13
The escape route is Jesus!
