Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did his father David. 1 Kings 15:11
Many TV movies and series depict the kings, dictators, and presidents that lived and ruled in the past.
I wonder how so many that did evil honestly thought it right to do so.
But as Solomon said, “That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, ‘See, this is new’? It has already been in ancient times before us.” Eccl 1:9-10
So the rule of good and the rule of evil has always existed.
Very few kings of Israel or Judah are mentioned as good. Most turned away from God and led their subjects to do the same.
Asa is mentioned as a king that did right in the eyes of the Lord.
You later read but the high places were not removed. 1 Kings 15:14
He did so much to end evil in his reign but did not complete the process, which is a thorn in their side.
All of us have things we struggle with removing from our lives – things displeasing to God. Temptation constantly gnaws at us to draw us back into an old lifestyle of sin and despair.
To overcome those times you must pray, seek God, and remove the “high places” that remind you and entice you to sin against God.
It’s never easy. It’s a constant struggle. It tries to wear you down.
But I remind you of the words of the Apostle Paul, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Rom 8:37
