He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin. 1 Kings 15:34
The phrase describes the reign of most of the kings of Israel – each followed suit after the sins of Jereboam.
Generation after generation continued down the same useless path, the worst being King Ahab, in which there is much written.
I see the same happening today in families, children growing up to continue in the sins of their parents and grandparents;
I have heard phrases like, “He just like his dad when it comes to the treatment of women” or “She has a drinking problem like her mom.”
Sometimes it’s not a sin but rather an inherited attitude or characteristic in each following generation.
My own family had a history of drinking. I was constantly raised around it and when I was a teen began drinking. It would have been easy to continue down the same path as my ancestors but I stopped. I did not want that for myself or any future family.
My wife often tells me “don’t make that look like your dad!” Recently she says I’m beginning to walk like my uncle.
There are some things you just can’t stop!
There are other generational curses you have the power to end and with the help of the Lord, you can!
