Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. 1 Kings 16:30
Just when you thought it could not get worse, Ahab becomes king. While the kings before him get a mention of reigning a few years, doing evil, and dying, usually in a few verses.
Ahab is an exception.
His sin begins with the marriage to a woman you’ve heard about your entire life – Jezebel.
Baal worship becomes a mainstay of Israel. The nation slips farther away from God.
Every so often I’ll hear someone say, “It can’t get any worse!”
Yes, it can.
The world you see today will continue to steadily decline in morality. Jesus said those words, “as it was in the days of Noah” (Luke 17:26) and in those days every intent of the thoughts of [man’s] heart was only evil continually. Gen 6:5
I have viewed life from the late 50’s to present day. I have witnessed many changes in morality, virtue, honesty, and respect for life.
I assure you it’s going downhill.
But a champion of God also shows up on the scene in the person of Elijah. And just as things can get worse, things can also get better.
Believe God and look for the best.
Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
