And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.” 1 Kings 21:15
I remember Professor Gaylor teaching about Naboth while I was in college. Back then I found it hard to believe that someone could do such a thing. More difficult still – people are still doing it.
The story, in short, is about Naboth, who owned a garden next to King Ahab’s palace. Ahab offered to buy it but Naboth refused to sell. Queen Jezebel made a plan to get Naboth killed so Ahab could take possession of it.
Naboth was cut down in the prime of life, all because someone wanted what legally belong to him.
There is nothing good to say about Ahab and Jezebel.
Each are known for their blatant transgressions against God, especially Jezebel. Her fame reaches into the New Testament and the church of Thyatira.
Rev 2:20-23 – Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
This demonic spirit of Jezebel still exists today. If you want to know more about it please read RECOGNIZE THE SPIRIT, a post from March 2017.
