Memorable Scripture: What is said about you?

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?” 1 Kings 22:18

There are some people you just cannot say anything good about. There is no good in them.
Some will call this judgmental on my part saying good and evil are not absolute values but relative and change from person to person or in different cultures.

King Ahab asked King Jehoshaphat of Judah to go to war with him. Jehoshaphat asked to inquire of the Lord. Ahab brought out the “prophets” who spoke of victory. Recognizing them as prophets of Baal, Jehoshaphat asks if there are any other prophets.
Ahab says there is, but…

King Ahab was an evil person, allowing his wife to manipulate him and lead the nation into idolatry. He stood by and did nothing at the murder of Naboth, then seized his property with no questions asked.
He allowed the killing of the prophets of God.
Now he declares one of those surviving prophets never says anything good about him.

For the most part, God does not prophesy good things about you either.
He declares your sinfulness and the penalty for it. He declares what happens to someone that dies in sin. It’s a harsh declaration.

On the opposite side, God also declares great things for you in Christ.

In Christ, you have forgiveness of sin.
In Christ there is peace.
In Christ is hope.
If only Ahab had found himself trusting the Lord God.
Don’t make the mistake of Ahab. There is nothing good to say about it.
