Memorable Scripture: Words give life and death

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

I’m fully convinced of the power of words.
A few years ago one of my coworkers made a pot of plain rice.
She put some in one jar and some in another jar, then screwed on the lids.
On one jar she wrote pleasant words like you are loved, you are beautiful, and you are blessed.
On the other was written you are hated, you are ugly, and you are cursed.
I would not believe the results if I had not witnessed it with my own eyes.
Over the next few weeks, the “blessed” rice stayed white, while the “cursed” rice began to turn dark and grow mold.
Two months later the blessed rice was still white and the cursed rice was black and had a disgusting liquid in the bottom of the jar.

Words have power.
What you say to others blesses or curses.
Your words preserve or rot.
Your own thoughts bless or curse you.
Hated words, harsh words, negative words, cuss words, and discouraging words all bring sickness to you.
Pleasant words, loving words, sweet words, encouraging words, and Godly words bring life and health.
When you control your thoughts, you control your attitude. When you control your attitude, you control your mouth. When you control your mouth, you bring life and health to yourself and those around you

  1. Great post! I believe in the power of our words. I have noticed many times that when I talk about sickness, I end up getting very sick. One should not say things like: “I love her to death.” Instead, we should speak life. I love the story of the rice jars.
