Memorable Scripture: Sharpening Friends

Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron,
So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

I actually realized the importance of this verse through the Promise Keeper’s movement of the 90’s. It was one of their key scriptures.
However, it’s not just a man’s verse, it’s for everyone.
It’s about friendship, discipleship, and accountability.
As iron sharpens iron, other Christian’s sharpen your relationship with Christ.
As iron sharpens iron, the church spiritually sharpens you.
It can’t happen if you don’t allow it.

Many people want to become a better Christian but they will not subject themselves to discipleship and accountability. Don’t look for a church that you can slip into comfortably. Find a church that constantly challenges you to mold to the image of Christ.
Find a body of believers that challenge you to dive deeper into the scripture and learn.
Look for Christian friends to hold yourself accountable and help you grow in Christ.
Although everyone in the church should have some accountability, it’s certainly difficult to hold someone accountable that doesn’t want any accountability. That person tends to feel like they are judged rather than sharpened.
