“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
For you have said in your heart:
I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.”
Lucifer was most important in the angelic host. From some verses in Ezekiel, this beloved cherub had great beauty as he guarded the throne of God.
It wasn’t enough for him. He wanted more.
He is the opposite of Jesus Who prayed, “…not My will, but Yours, be done.” Luke 22:42
For Lucifer, his phrase is “I will” and he says it five times in today’s text.
Lucifer, also known as Satan, is the adversary spoken of in the Bible. His only desire is to take God’s place.
He wants to become God.
He wants the worship, he wants the praise, he wants the platitudes, and he wants it all. More than anything he wants God to acknowledge him.
God has other ideas – Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.
His fate is signed, sealed, and will soon be delivered.
Rev 20:10 – The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone.
More than that – Phil 2:10-11 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Satan has lost but his pride won’t let him admit it.
Don’t let your pride keep you from the will of the Father for your life.
Don’t be a Satan.
