Memorable Scripture: The Gift

Isaiah 28:11
For with stammering lips and another tongue
He will speak to this people,

After an overwhelming encounter with the Holy Spirit, I began voraciously reading the Bible and came upon this verse. Although I was a Christian for over twenty years, it was the first time I read it.
I immediately thought of what happened to me and all I the teachings of my church.
I was raised believing the gift of tongues was dead. Certainly, you may believe that too. I kept an open mind about it thinking, “If God desires to give me this gift, who am I to argue with God.”
I wasn’t looking for it to happen to me.
I did not try to make it happen to me.

This scripture finds fulfillment on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit fell upon the believers. They went to the Temple area and proclaimed the Gospel in languages they had not learned.
Speaking in unknown tongues was not limited to that Day. It’s recorded to have happened several more times.
Paul addressed the gift in his letter to the Corinthians.
Do I believe it is a gift that happens to everyone?
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. 1 Cor 12:29-31
That more excellent way and gift is love!
Love God and love people and you fulfill the Law and Prophets.
