Isaiah 61:1-2
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,”
Jesus began His ministry in Galilee. While in Nazareth He entered the synagogue and opened the scroll to this section of Isaiah and read what you have read today.
He finished by saying, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:21
The people of Nazareth did not care for that too much and tried to kill Him by throwing Him off a cliff.
It’s sad the people of Nazareth could not take to heart this scripture for themselves.
I do!
I can say the same exact scripture and believe it speaks of me. Not in a Messianic way but in a ministerial way.
God’s Spirit is on me.
I am anointed to preach the Gospel, to heal hearts, and proclaim freedom in Christ to those imprisoned by sin.
You should take this scripture to heart and make it your anthem.
