Hosea 1:2
When the Lord began to speak by Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea: “Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry, for the land has committed great harlotry by departing from the Lord.”
I admit up front I’m not overly familiar with Hosea. It’s not a book I’ve studied in depth and how that I’m to it I feel shame for not knowing more about Hosea.
I do remember God telling him to take a wife that is a prostitute.
I’ve always thought that was a strange request.
However, Hosea obeyed God and took Gomer, a prostitute, for his wife.
I know prostitutes are people too. I just find it such a shame for someone to sink to such a low position in life and turn to it.
Then again, we all sell ourselves for something.
We’ll compromise our belief for sin.
We’ll change our morality for convenience.
We legislate what is wrong to make it right.
And just as Hosea loved Gomer, God loves us.
He does not overlook sin, after all, Jesus told a prostitute to “Go and sin no more!” (John 8:11)
