So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley. And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too, will I be toward you.”
Hosea is married to a prostitute – an adulteress.
He married her because God directed him to do so.
To get her to come back home Hosea pays for her.
Imagine a husband paying for his wife to come home. Just to be fair, how about a wife paying for her husband to come home.
I know you’re thinking Hosea is a fool. He should kick her out, get over it, and move on.
He needs to find him a nice, reasonable, and decent woman to marry.
It’s lunacy to keep pursuing this woman.
But you see this is the exact example of what God did for us.
We are Gomer, constantly running away and committing adultery with the world.
God wants us back home with Him.
So He paid for us with a very high price – the blood of His Son.
