Matthew 2:1-2
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
After my salvation, I began to study the Bible. I remember thinking, “How is it wise men from the East were looking for Him and not wise men from Israel?”
Bible study reveals the answer.
Assyria conquered Israel in 720 BC.
Babylon conquered Judah in 586 BC.
When Babylon invaded Israel and conquered them, many Jews were taken captive back to Babylon. Daniel is one of the most well known along with Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, also known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.
The Jews were freed from the Babylonian captivity after 70 years.
I’m sure many chose to stay in Babylon after making a home there. It is the descendants of these individuals that studied, watched, and waited and eventually made their way to Israel looking for the King of the Jews.
Today there are churches around every corner. Teaching and preaching are broadcast on television and radio. There are books and on-line resources on the Bible.
Yet, with all the possibilities for people to know the Gospel, you still find people that have not accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, just like those in Jerusalem did not know about the Birth of Jesus.
Truly, it is wise men (and women) that still seek Him.
