Matthew 5:37
But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
The Lord is really shaking things up.
Now He speaks about oaths and swearing.
It makes me wonder how many people have lied after placing their hand on the Bible and swearing “so help me, God!”
I’ll toss this in – a true Christian never has a need to swear on the Bible. Let your word by truth and let your word be your bond.
Eccl 5:5 says better not to vow than to vow and not pay.
Let your vow be a promise you keep and nothing else.
If you tell someone you’ll do something, then do it.
But if someone promises to do something for you, try not to hold a grudge if they don’t. That’s for folks like me that sometimes get overwhelmed with so many things and it slips the mind.
A kind reminder can get us back on track.
