Memorable Scripture: Eye Forgive

Matthew 5:38-39
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.”

No one likes to be mistreated. And most want some sort of equal retribution when they are mistreated.
The Law of Moses allowed for this retribution – an eye for an eye.
Please understand, this Law doesn’t give you permission to revenge yourself as much as it gives you an opportunity to forgive someone else that wrongs you!
A sinful nature never realizes this. A sinful nature only wants more sin – to kill and destroy.
Jesus opens the door for you to forgive and move forward.
If someone cusses you, you don’t have to cuss them back. Bless them in Jesus’ name and move on. But that touches on tomorrow’s discussion.

  1. Yes, when we learn what mercy and forgiveness are, we’re pretty much ahead of the game. I used to see ppl who had been living in sin as needing repentance. They would come to church as if nothing they had done mattered. Then I figured out that it really didn’t. Oh how much I have been forgiven from my past. I thank my Lord and Savior that he has truly forgiven me.
