John 4:13-14
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
There is much to say about this scripture but I won’t take time to say it all.
What I notice the most is Jesus relates to everyone He comes in contact with.
To Nicodemus, a man born into his position, He said, “You must be born again!”
To a woman drawing water from a well He tells her she should get a drink of the water He offers.
It would make no sense to her had He said, “You must be born again,” or to tell Nicodemus about drinking living water.
It’s a lesson every Christian should learn – to use the circumstances and surroundings to minister Jesus to others.
Something else of note is Jesus did not condemn her, although she had been married five times and was living with a man. She knew she had sinned and her life was messy. He had compassion on her to help her improve her relationship with the Father.
Once again it is clear that salvation is only through Jesus.
