Memorable Scripture: Deserters

John 6:66
From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.

That’s astounding that people would quit following Jesus Himself!
He confessed to all of them that some of them did not truly believe in Him.
They proved Him right.
They left.
They went returned to familiar surroundings and doing what was comfortable.
The sayings of the Bible are hard to live up to.
Jesus is hard to live up to.
But if you recall, He never said, “Live up to me”, instead He said, “Take up your cross and follow me!”
Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” John 6:67-69
This is what keeps me following Jesus – knowing who He is!
If you teach God’s word some will distance themselves from you. God’s word does not mix with their lifestyle.
But improving my lifestyle is what keeps me following Him.
There is no one else to follow.
No one else offers forgiveness of sin and eternal life with no strings attached.
