Memorable Scripture: Newness of Life

Romans 6:1-4
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

The question was one of logic.
If sin abounds and grace abounds more, then shouldn’t we sin more so grace can abound more.
Paul cannot say it more clearly – Certainly not!
Salvation does not give you the freedom to sin, it gives you the freedom not to sin.
Baptism is the ultimate symbol of this truth.
Just as Christ died for our sin, our sin was buried with Him, and He is resurrected to carry our sin no longer to the glory of the Father.
Likewise, your water baptism is your death into the water, buried with Him into death, and then resurrected out of the water in newness of life.
You sin was buried with Christ in the grave.
It is dead to you and you are dead to sin.
Now you are alive in Christ.
So today go ahead and walk in that newness of life.
