1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
I first read this verse in a tract.
It stayed with me and I got to use it one time.
It was after I got out of high school and was very active in the church.
I dropped by to visit an old girlfriend’s family the next summer.
I was very excited about my relationship with Christ and began sharing it with the family.
The dad told me he remembered some of the things I was talking about from his time as a youth in the Episcopal church.
He went on to say, “It was foolishness back then, and its foolishness now!”
The scripture popped into my head and poured out my mouth.
It probably sounded very judgmental and sarcastic but it is the truth.
To atheists, agnostics, and those believing in self-righteousness, the preaching of the cross is foolishness.
If it wasn’t, they would all accept Jesus as Savior.
It’s really only after salvation you realized the message of the cross is, indeed, the power of God!
There are no more powerful words than the preaching of the cross of Christ.
