Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

I’ll do these two together today.
I know a few women that take offense at this verse for her.
I also know a few men that ignore the verse for him.
Men love the first verse because it seems to say wives should listen and obey their husbands to the point of slavery. Totally wrong view.
Many women like the second verse because he needs to love her and let her have her way.
If both husband and wife do their part, then both verses are fulfilled.
There is a simple explanation and it starts with Jesus Christ.
What did He do for the church?
He loved her and died for her.
What does the church do for Him?
It lives for Him.
Therefore, husbands should die for their wives and wives should live for their husbands.
The husband/wife team is not created so each can do their own thing, no more than the church can do its own thing.
The husband/wife team is one (or should be) with each other.
Now, do I practice what I preach.
I really try to.
It was once said by one of my own children, “Mom and dad are connected at the hip.”
We love each other and live in peace with each other. To fight her is to fight myself, so why beat myself up!
We love many of the same things and that includes our faith in God.
I may be a pastor but she is right beside me.
She is an incredible empathetic prayer warrior, while I am a teacher of scripture.
Together, we are a complete ministry of submission and love.
