2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
We are there!
Too many ministers do not want to offend and end up watering-down the message of the Bible.
Granted, I do not want to offend people before they hear the Gospel of Christ.
I’m afraid I have done just that over the years but I’ve learned you cannot win people to Christ by insulting them first.
Even Paul, when visiting the idols at Mars Hill said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious.” Acts 17:22
They were worshiping idols but Paul did not say, “You idolaters are going to hell!”
He actually complemented them, calling them very religious.
Then he used an empty altar to proclaim Jesus!
He did not change the Gospel in order to please the crowd.
However, that is not the case in today’s scripture.
Sound doctrine continues to deteriorate and crumble.
People are not called to live to a higher standard but many lower the message of Christ to accommodate sinfulness.
Preaching should never make you feel good about sinful behavior.
If reading the Bible or listening to a minister makes you uncomfortable or angry, then it’s doing what is should do.
God’s message is here to change us!
Boy howdy!
