Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Not only a memorable scripture but one of my favorites.
The word of God is taught over and over. It is preached over and over. No other Book of words has this quality. God’s word is living because we are living and need Life!
It’s words are sharp and cuts us down to the heart with conviction over sin.
It’s a double edge and will get you coming and going!
It gets into our thoughts and addresses our intents.
I’ve long thought of this analogy with the latter half of this verse.
Before God we are like a body at an autopsy – naked, open, and nothing hidden.
Just as the pathologist studies and knows everything about that person, God knows ALL THINGS about you and me!
Finally, we are called on to give an account of why we lived as we did.
That’s a very sobering thought.
