Hebrews 6:13-14 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”
“I swear on my mother’s grave!”
“Cross my heart and hope to die.”
“Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God?”
Just a few phrases used to make an oath.
We usually swear by something important or greater than ourselves.
God’s oath is in Himself since there is nothing greater than Himself.
And He fulfilled His oath in Himself by giving Himself.
He didn’t just promise to save us from death but He actually died for us in order to fulfill His oath to us.
When God promises it’s always attached to His own name!
