Memorable Scripture: Doers & Hearers

James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

This is one of those verses always in the back of my mind.
It has been there since I read it more than 40 years ago.
Every time I come across it I ask myself, “am I a doer of the word?”
My answer is always the same, “but you could do better!”
God’s living word is given to us so we can live the word.
Jesus often called the Pharisees hypocrites because of their Lawful instructions to people but lack of personally following the same.
There was a time I was hit-and-miss in tithing.
As a result, I could not preach or teach about tithing without being hypocritical, despite that no one else knew.
What is the solution?
Become a doer of the word and give the tithe, which gives me the freedom to teach on the subject without reservation.
“Doers” have freedom in Christ.
“Hearers only” are in a chokehold of hypocrisy.
