Memorable Scripture: Asking Amiss

James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

God is not a genie and you are not Aladdin.
He is not here for your pleasure, for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Phil 2:13
Some will think that isn’t fair.
However, God does not take pleasure in sin, like you and me, but in righteousness.
His pleasure in us is for holiness and eternal life through and in him.
When we ask amiss, we ask outside the righteousness and holiness of God.
God knows what is best for us, much like you know what’s best for your children.
If you left it up to them to choose certain things, they would never go to school and eat junk food or candy all day.
In fact, they probably already ask for certain things that you deny them.
My grandson wants a toy every time we go to the store.
If I bought him everything he asked for I would have a house full of toys and no money for food and utilities.
So it is with God.
We are designed after Him – created in His image and so we often subconsciously do what He does.
