Revelation 22:8-9 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”
Last night we saw the movie The Girl That Believed in Miracles.
Toward the end, she walks outside and people start kneeling.
She tells them to get up – that she is nothing special.
I immediately thought of today’s scripture and this morning it is the next one.
What a contrast this scripture is to Lucifer!
He relishes the moment someone bows down to worship him.
Many people would also cherish the moment they are lifted up, exalted, and praised!
But this angel sees the danger of such moves from us.
Worship belongs to God.
You owe it to Him.
I don’t believe John was going to worship the angel but would worship God as his feet.
What would a bystander believe upon seeing the sight of an apostle bowing at the feet of an angel?
Perhaps you think it’s not the business of what an onlooker thinks if John’s heart is true and pure.
And you are wrong!
It is written in 1 Thess 5:22 to abstain from all appearance of evil.
It is not simply a question of my thoughts were pure or my intentions were right.
It is also how others perceive you.
