Jeremiah 28:15-16 Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah, the Lord has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the Lord.'”
Judah was under siege.
Jeremiah prophesied the capture of Jerusalem.
Another prophet came along and theatrically proclaimed “thus speaks the Lord”, saying the invading army was doomed and Judah would triumph.
Jeremiah replied he hoped that was true.
It wasn’t.
God told Jeremiah to proclaim the death of the false prophet.
Fast forward to 2021.
After the election, a “prophet” declared that on a certain day in March 2021, Donald Trump would be declared president again.
It did not happen.
I just read an article about a pastor declaring the current president is demon-possessed and in league with human trafficking.
A false prophet is more dangerous than a bad politician.
The false prophet claims to speak for God, whereas a politician always pushes his/her political agenda.
As Christians, we must be cautious not to give the world an excuse to sneer and jeer against “thus says the Lord”.
If you truly want to declare the word of God, read your Bible and speak the words you read.
You cannot go wrong with what is established.
