Luke 10:20 “…rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
Many things can make you happy.
A new car or a new baby.
A raise in salary or your garden producing well.
The list could go on and on with things that make you happy.
However, happiness in temporary things is a temporary happiness.
New cars become old.
Babies grow up.
Raises are overrun by inflation.
And the garden doesn’t last.
It’s not pessimistic but reality.
Jesus sent seventy disciples out to preach the gospel.
They come back happy about how it went but they did not mention how many received the gospel, how many were healed, or how many were saved.
They were most impressed that even the demons were subject to them in Jesus’ name.
Jesus gave them a reality check.
The greatest joy is salvation – your name written in heaven.
That does not grow old.
It is not overrun.
And it lasts eternally.
