Memorable Scripture: Our Image, Our Likeness

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;” Gen 1:26

God is a holy and just God. In Him, you find no sin, no lie, no guile, and no impurity. He is the standard for judgment against the entire creation.

Of all creation, God only created man in His image. This begs the question “if man is created in the image of God, then how could we sin since God does not sin?”

The good, pure holiness of God in Adam gave into the temptation of sin. Adam was not created as a robot, only to obey God’s command without hesitation. Adam had within him the free will to worship and serve God. It is choice.

Jesus came as a man and was tempted, yet He did not sin. He, too, exercised a choice. He chose the good, pure holiness of God.

The image and likeness of God give you intellect and creativity. It gives you the strength to press on through adversity. It gives you the ability to share love and mercy to others.

Love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, empathy, understanding, and giving are all attributes of God given to you.

God is also a God of wrath and judgment. He is a jealous God; a God of vengeance. This, too, exist in you.
God, by choice, tempers His wrath and judgment. He righteously is jealous and exercises vengeance only through His just holiness.
This is something people (made in His image) fail to do!

Something else God said after the fall of Adam – the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. Gen 3:22
You know the difference between good and evil, just like God.
Sometimes people determine good by their own standard rather than God. They call good evil and evil good and convince themselves about how right that is.

God gave you His word to guide you into living in His likeness and image. Read His word and let it remold and remake you into what God created you to be!

  1. Foolishness of preaching. The putting of God’s Word into terms the average person can understand. How blessed is one who seeks understanding & receives it. Thank you Tim for listening to God Almighty.
