And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” Gen 11:4
Known as the Tower of Babel, it gives an ancient glimpse into today.
Like people of today, they thought to achieve their own greatness through their own means.
They decided to create their own way to heaven and stay together as a people united under this ideology.
It will never work!
The greatness of people only last a season, soon forgotten or replace by another feat of greatness from someone else.
God’s greatness is eternal. It never ends or superseded.
You can never prescribe your salvation. Building a tower whose top is in the heavens or just decided a good deed is enough does not overrule what God says.
Your name carries no weight with God either. God says that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:10-11
He is the Name above all names.
Take a lesson from Babel – your way won’t work!
