Proverbs 1:10
My son, if sinners entice you,
Do not consent.
The world’s greatest ignored advice!
The reason is that bird’s of a feather flock together or the blind lead the blind and both fall in the ditch.
We cannot resist the temptation of friends and acquaintances to commit sin.
The writer of proverbs gives murder and theft as two examples. I can think of many more.
Sinful people entice us to drink, try drugs, commit fornication or adultery, eat too much, cuss and curse, gossip, racist acts, and many other acts against God and man!
I can hear someone now saying how snobbish I am with those views.
However, a look at the life of Jesus reveals how He encouraged the opposite actions from us.
He enticed us to love God with our whole heart, mind, and strength.
He enticed us to love others as we love ourselves.
He enticed us to “go and sin no more.”
A man told me years ago, a “friend” enticed him to go buy drugs. He said, “Pastor, I went with him and I bought some!”
I told him, “You need some new friends!”
Then I gave him this advice, “Next time he comes over to get you to go with him, tell him, ‘Let’s pray about it first!’ And you pray in the name of Jesus for God to direct your steps. You pray hard! You cry out to God with your spirit! God will help you overcome this temptation and your friend will either get saved or leave you alone!”
Please do not ignore my advice. It can save you from much trouble and heartache.
