Proverbs 22:2
The rich and the poor have this in common,
The Lord is the maker of them all.
This is a comforting thought. This verse often reminds me of the Rich man and Lazarus story in Luke 16:19-31.
Both are born the same way. Both had a dad and mom. Both learned to walk and talk.
It’s possible the parents of the rich man were rich and he inherited his wealth. It’s possible he made his own wealth.
It’s possible Lazarus’ parents were poor too. Or maybe they were middle class, just trying to make it from paycheck to paycheck when disaster hit and threw them into poverty.
The Lord is still the Creator of both and both stood before God in judgment.
The rich cannot bribe the Creator and the poor are not ignored by the Creator.
2 Cor 5:10-For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
As my Dad used to say, we all put our pants on one leg at a time.
