Memorable Scripture: Disciplining Children

Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

I remember a young lady telling me when she eventually had children she was never going to spank them. She would reason with them instead.
I believe in correcting a child and the use of a “rod” doesn’t bother me as long as it isn’t abusive.
It’s difficult to reason with those with no reasoning. But everyone understands pain and the feeling of disappointing others.
Dr. James Dobson once said to never spank a child with your hand. Hands are for loving and caressing. Always separate your hand from the child with something else, whether it’s a belt, flyswatter, or hickory switch.
I also learned from Dr. Dobson, after spanking the child, always take time to hold them, love on them, and explain to them why they were punished.
I think the doctor gives good advice and it goes along with the Bible.
