Luke 4:38-39
Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.
There are several things about this scripture.
You learn that Simon Peter is married, his mother-in-law lives with them, and she was very sick the day Jesus visited.
One other thing, Jesus stood over her and rebuked the fever.
It left her.
If you read the previous verses you see Jesus rebuking demons and they left their host.
Demons and fever are treated no different – Jesus rebuked them both and both had to leave.
As followers of Christ, we have the ability to rebuke and to bless.
You must believe your words, in Jesus’ name, are very powerful.
Do people need doctors and nurses? Yes, they do.
However, next time there is a sickness around you, demonstrate your faith and rebuke it.
If you think, “it won’t do any good” then it probably won’t for you because you lack faith.
And why did it work for Jesus, or Peter, or Paul?
Faith rebukes doubt!
There is a profound lesson in this verse. Faith is a key component and as practitioners of medical science know, belief in the treatment can make up to 90 % of its efficacy. This is the psychology behind the placebo effect.
