Colossians 1:15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
God is Spirit. (John 424)
Jesus came in the flesh. (1 John 4:2-3)
Jesus is the image of God.
Jesus said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” John 14:9
How can this be?
It is something difficult for us to conceive.
Our understanding is limited to flesh and blood – the physical.
We sense everything through the senses of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell.
God is beyond all the senses.
There are sounds we cannot hear, gases we cannot smell, and light we cannot see.
God is beyond our senses and yet we can sense Him in our lives.
Jesus is the image of something we cannot see – the invisible God.
Jesus is the firstborn over all creation, meaning, He takes preeminence over everything else. As Paul previously said, He is the Name above all names.
