Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Sin easily becomes an extension of your body.
I always thought it interesting how the sins mentioned here are called “members”, as if they belong to you.
They do!
Sin becomes as natural to you as walking.
Sin becomes something you do with little thought.
It becomes a habit. Habits are hard to break but not impossible.
First, you need to recognize the habit or the sin.
Paul says to not just recognize it but to kill it.
Excommunicate it from you.
Get rid of it.
He gives a good reason – Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. (Colossians 3:6)
Sin is behavioral.
It is something you can make your mind up not to do but your mind cannot be your own. Your mind is corrupted by sin.
You need the mind of Christ.
You also need the forgiveness of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
