1 John 4:1-3 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
Beloved, no one does this anymore.
People tend to accept the word of every minister that comes along.
However, if the minister errs from the straight and narrow way of scripture, or if the minister has a new revelation from God, then the minister’s spirit needs checking.
It’s not strictly a verbal confirmation but their lives must also confess that Jesus has come in the flesh.
If you say Jesus is your Savior, then you must live as Jesus is your Savior.
That means believers must separate from sinful, worldly living and have a life that is visibly different.
Also, many false prophets are in the world and many quote from the Bible.
I had a Muslim at college tell me he believed Jesus is one of the great prophets but Jesus is not God in the flesh.
He was emphatic that God cannot become a human.
I would say today’s scripture applies.
