Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again. 1 Samuel 5:1-3
Because of the sin of Israel, the Philistines killed the sons of Eli and captured the Ark of the Covenant. Upon hearing the news Eli fell, broke his neck, and died.
To gloat over this victory, the Philistines placed the Ark under the watchful eye of their god Dagon.
In the end, Dagon’s statue ended up broken on the ground.
The Lord God is never defeated!
Sin may increase, evil leaders take power, God’s people persecuted, and His word banned or ridiculed – but God is never defeated.
There may be wars and rumors of wars, nation rising against nation, kingdom against kingdom, and famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
Perhaps they deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and all nations hate you for His name’s sake.
You may be betrayed, hated, and lawlessness abounds while the love of many grows cold.
Even in times as this – God is not defeated.
