I don’t know about your salvation. I don’t know how many opportunities you have had to accept God’s grace and forgiveness.
He is known as a God of second chances. Continue reading
I am by no means perfect but I know the pathway to perfection and have seen a glimpse of it. But keeping my eyes on Jesus all the time is hard in a world that keeps enticing me away.
I am not tempted by all things, yet the adversary knows what temptations will work. Continue reading
What do you get out of church, Sunday school, and Bible study?
Some get very much and others very little. There are those that don’t get fed in a church service and others that take lots of notes.
What you get out of it is entirely up to you.
Case in point,
From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” John 6:66-69
Peter was one of twelve men that traveled with Jesus. Along with the others he witnessed miracles, heard teaching, and watched His lifestyle.
However it was Peter alone that proclaimed that Jesus was the Christ. That’s not to say the others did not think it also.
But among the twelve is one that is of a different nature.
Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” John 6:70
Knowing what Judas will do begs the question as to why he didn’t get anything from the teaching of Jesus.
How is it the others went on to preach, teach, and evangelize and Judas did not?
Let’s investigate this tragedy this week.
Some people won’t attend church because, they say, it’s full of hypocrites! So is Walmart because hypocrites do their shopping there. Or Kroger’s because hypocrites do their shopping there too.
Hypocrites go to the movies, swim at the beach, attend high school basketball games, and drive on the road. Continue reading
Christian apologetics is just another way of saying “defending the faith”. For me, that’s not debating or arguing – it’s an explanation of the scripture, including the Gospel. Continue reading
Sunday was a great day at Crossroads. I was honored to baptize a 73 year old man.
I’ve known Bobby for years, as he is Brock’s dad – Brock being my brother-in-law. Brock had been actively talking to his dad about salvation and often asked us at church to pray for him.
Last Wednesday, Brock’s mom passed away.
This devastated the family.
When another son, Brent, began talking with his dad about things, Bobby realized that he would never see Betty again, not here and not in eternity. With that thought came the reason why he would not see her – he was a sinner that had never given his heart to Jesus.
That changed last Saturday night when he asked Jesus for forgiveness and invited Him into his heart.
It is written,
if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Rom 10:9-10
I am witness and testify that Bobby did exactly that! He confessed with his mouth and told me that he meant every word he prayed – he believed in his heart. He further made a public profession of his faith by being baptized.
It was a glorious day and a great reminder that GOD STILL SAVES!
Abba, I am blessed that Bobby gave his heart to You. I am thankful for the change I see in his family because of his decision. And I pray that his salvation will affect many others that need Jesus as Savior. YES&AMEN
Everyone has something they love to do – something they need to do. Something they were born to do.
You are born to do something and I hope you are doing it.
I have wanted to be a DJ on the radio since I was about 7 years old. Along the way I accepted Jesus as my Savior and then God called me into the ministry.
He also led me into radio broadcasting where I am a DJ.
I am also a pastor and have been for 15 years at my present church; preceded by 6 years at my former pastorate.
I have to talk. It’s what God has called me to do. It is what I love to do. I can take to heart the words of the Apostle Paul,
Yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! 1 Cor 9:16
He may have been saying that he had to preach the Gospel and would be reprimanded by God if he didn’t.
Or, like me, he may have been saying that it was his calling and he had to preach the Gospel – that it was a part of him. That it was his life!
For me, it is what I was born to do. To preach, teach, and talk about the Gospel.
Woe is me if I don’t.
Abba, I am blessed by the knowledge of Your word. I want to know more and share more with others. In Jesus name, YES&AMEN
Yesterday was Election Day.
My polling place happens to be my church. Linda and I always go vote right before the polls close so I can lock up the church.
Yesterday I was the last person to vote – #104. There are around 350 voters in this precinct and I was number 104.
Evidently voters did not see this as an important election. Let it be a presidential year and many more will turn out to vote.
Give diligence to make your calling and election sure. 2 Peter 1:10
The church I was raised in was a small country church. One thing I remember is there were 168 on the church roll but only about 40 or 50 ever came to church, that is, unless it was Mother’s Day or Homecoming.
It seems the elect of God are like the electorate of the country – only show up at self-determined important times.
I also remember that if there was some dissension over the pastor and it was time for a business meeting, that people I had not seen in church for years would show up for the vote.
I do not believe any of this is pleasing to the Lord.
He gave us the fellowship of His church so we could grow in faith and knowledge.
He gave us His word so we could read and learn more about Him.
He gave us each other to encourage and be encouraged; to pray with and pray for, and for accountability.
The American voter should show more concern about the election of government officials in the country.
Likewise, God’s people should be more diligent to show their calling and election by being more involved in church, Bible study, and fellowship.
Abba, I vote for church. I choose fellowship and Bible study. I elect to follow Jesus. YES&AMEN
I remember over 30 years ago, when I was a contractor for the telephone company, I would get a job that contained a description of the work needed to be done, complete with directions to the location.
One day I got a job that described the work area as “just past Johnny Weatherford’s old place.”
I knew Mr. Weatherford. He was a supervisor at the telco. But I did not know where he once lived. In fact, I found out later he had not lived there in more than 15 years. Only the old-timer phone men remembered that.
Each of us do much the same thing – making reference to homes and stores that no longer exist, like the old Wal-mart or someone’s old homestead.
I still refer to my uncle Curtis’ property, though he has been dead and gone for over 30 years and his daughter and son-in-law own it all now.
Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” Gen 22:14
The place where Abraham would sacrifice Isaac was around Mt. Moriah. But after the events he named it Yahweh-Yireh (Jehovah Jireh) or “The Lord Will Provide”.
I’m pretty sure that not too many people called it that. Perhaps Abraham, Isaac, maybe the men that had traveled with them, and a few other family members through the years.
What a wonderful testimony it would be if to do things like this today. And you can.
You can share with our children, grandchildren, family and friends such things as where you were saved, baptized, or first went to VBS as a child.
You can show them the pastor’s house or some old church where you experienced a great revival.
Make a memory like Abraham did for his family.
Abba, I praise You for the Godly memories throughout my life. May I pass those memories down to my family and help them make memories of their own. In Jesus name, YES&AMEN
