Memorable Scripture: Love Hate

Malachi 1:2-3
“Yet Jacob I have loved; But Esau I have hated,”

The story of Esau and Jacob began before their births.
The Lord told Rebekah, “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.” Gen 25:23
Normally the eldest son gets a double portion of heritage and would take over the family at the death of the father.
Esau, the firstborn, was certainly the favorite of Isaac, while Jacob, the second born twin brother, was the favorite of Rebekah.
When you read the story in Genesis 25 and the following chapters, you get a glimpse of Jacob in a web of deception to take what belongs to his bother. He tricked his dad and attained his brother’s birthright.
However, it was Esau that despised the birthright and all that went with it. It’s not just about the flocks and herds. It’s not about the servants and land.
It was also about a covenant with God.
Esau despised his birthright and traded it away for a bowl of stew.
Meanwhile, Jacob desired the birthright. He wanted to be God’s next chosen individual.
Esau and his people became bitter enemies of Israel and God.

This sounds familiar, even today, as people despise the Covenant with God or accept it.
Like Esau, many want the blessings but not the Godly requirements that go with it.
Others desire the fullness of God through Jesus Christ in their lives.
I am one of those receiving the blessing God gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I accepted the blessing of their Descendant through King David – Jesus Christ!
